Our Fragrance longevity in India (particularly Mumbai) typically ranges from 4 to 6 hours upto 12 hours. However, it depends on several factors:

BODY CHEMISTRY

Your body chemistry plays a key role in how a fragrance smells and lasts. Factors such as hygiene, health, stress, diet, and medications can all influence how a perfume interacts with your skin. Each person’s unique chemistry can alter how different notes are perceived, making a signature scent deeply personal and reflective of one’s identity.

CLOTHING

Fragrances tend to last longer on clothing than on skin, sometimes up to a full day or even a week. Cotton, in particular, holds scent better than other fabrics.

CLIMATE

Climate significantly affects how a fragrance is perceived. In hot weather, perfume notes become more intense, while cold weather slows their evaporation. For warmer conditions, light, crisp, and fresh notes are ideal, whereas woody, oriental, and leathery notes suit cooler temperatures.

Attars are concentrated form whereas the Perfumes are diluted with solvents such as alcohol.

It is observed that Attars has a better longevity whereas, a Perfume has better throw in air when applied for few hours.

Attars seem more long-lasting as they stick easily on your skin for minimum 4-6 hours, depending on the blend of fragrances. That’s because they are in a base of oil, which sticks to wherever you apply it. They are activated by the heat of your skin, so they radiate outward as your skin heats up. That’s why you apply them to your pulse points, and the fragrance can be smelled when someone passes by you or comes close.

Perfumes spray into the air. When the solvent (alcohol) lands, it touches down on your clothes, and skin, and the rest dissipates in a cloud of fragrance behind you. As you wear it, the alcohol continues to have throw as the alcohol dissipates into the air. This means that your boss, coworkers, and the people around you can smell your perfume before they are close enough to have a conversation with you.

Although Perfume seem “strong” or project more at first, they evaporate into the air easily. Such is the nature of alcohol. When combined with oxygen, it dissipates.

Top notes provide the first scent impression of a fragrance once it has been applied. They are usually lighter, more volatile aromas that evaporate readily. Their scent usually lingers for between 5 and 30 minutes.

Middle notes, sometimes referred to as “heart notes”, make up the body of the blend. They may be evident from the start, but will usually take 10-30 minutes to fully develop on the skin. They are the notes that classify the fragrance family (floral, oriental, chypre, etc, see below).

Base Notes are those with the greatest molecular weight. They last the longest, and are also important as fixatives, that is, they help slow down the evaporation rates of the lighter notes, giving the fragrance holding power. Common base notes include oakmoss, patchouli, woods, musk and vanilla.

A fragrance which does not have traditional top, middle and base notes is usually described as “linear”

These terms refer to the strength of the fragrance, or more specifically, to how much high solvent has been added to the fragrance oils.

Eau de Parfum (20-25% perfume oil)
Extrait de Parfum (30-35% perfume oil)

Mostly it’s observed that Eau de Parfum has a greater projection due to high solvent whereas, Extrait de Parfum has a better longevity (compared to EDP) due to higher concentration of fragrance oils.
